Op de laatste schooldag van de meiden is Dustin naar ons toegebracht door meneer Gaus. Hij kwam op vrijdagochtend en dit eerste weekend is bedoeld als wenweekend. Om elkaar goed te leren kennen.
Na het weekend begon de training. Blindengeleidehond en baas moeten ook aan elkaar wennen. De hond is opgeleid en weet wat van hem verwacht moet, maar het baasje weet nog niet gelijk hoe hij de hond moet 'sturen' of waar de hond precies toe in staat is.
In de eerste 2 weken nadat Dustin bij ons kwam, is meneer Gaus veelvuldig bij ons geweest om te zorgen dat mijn lief en Dustin een goed team kunnen worden.
Nooit geweten hoe heftig dat is voor zo'n hond. De trainingen zijn kort, maar heel intensief. Na ruim een half uur is de hond moe en heeft tijd nodig om uit te rusten. Daarna kan nog een sessie plaatsvinden.
Bijzonder om mee te maken en te zien dat er elke dag vorderingen zijn.
On the last day of school for the girls Dustin was brought to us by mr Gaus. He came on friday morning and this first weekend is meant to get used to each another.
On monday the training started. Guiding dog and 'boss' need to get to know each other. The dog is educated and knows what is expected of him, but his boss does not know how to 'guide' him and what the dog is capable of.
In the first two weeks after Dustin came living with us, mr Gaus visited us frequently to make sure that my love and Dustin will become a good team.
I had never realized how much energy it takes of the dog. The training-moments are short, yet very intensive. After some 30 minutes the dog is tired and needs time to rest. Afterwards another session can take place.
It is very special to live this period and to notice the steps forward every day.
